WHITISH’S SHOOTING DISPLAY FUELS WISCONSIN GLO WIN
Hannah Whitish hit a team record nine 3-pointers and finished with 27 points as the Wisconsin GLO capped a perfect weekend with an 85-63 win over the Flint Monarchs on Sunday afternoon.
Taylor Wurtz added 22 points, including 15 in the second half, as the GLO pulled away over the final two quarters to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Whitish hit five 3-pointers in the first half and the GLO took a 41-34 lead on Steph Kostowicz’s lay in just before intermission. But Flint came out and scored the first six points of the third quarter to pull within 41-40.
That’s when Wurtz took over.
The former University of Wisconsin standout drained 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions and scored 10 straight points to push the lead to 51-40. Julie Wojta answered two Flint free throws with a 3-pointer, while Wurtz added her third trey of the quarter to help the GLO take a 59-46 lead into the final period.
Wurtz outscored the entire Flint squad 13-12 in the third quarter.
The Monarchs did get the margin within 10 points early in the fourth before Whitish hit two more 3-pointers and Alex Cohen added another in an 11-1 run that pushed the lead to 20.
Wisconsin will finally return to the Menominee Nation Arena for a pair of games this weekend. The GLO, who haven’t played at home since June 20, will host the Detroit Queens on Saturday at 7 p.m., before welcoming the Chicago Breeze on Sunday at 3 p.m.
